MY BODY OF WORK
Here are some of my recent works that are all currently for sale. I undertake a lot of commissions, so if you see something you like but would like your own spin on it, please contact me on 0414 229 558.
SEAWORLD
Acrylic on Canvas
75 x 100 cm
Don't you love porpoises having fun with their trainers. The scene also provided me with the chance to explore the juxtaposition of order versus chaos.
$750
HENRY THE OCTOPUS
Acrylic and Gold Leaf on Canvas
120 x 120 cm
The Wiggles were my son's favourite group when he was a child, he is now 27 but still a child at heart. This painting reminds me of a time when fun was alive and well, this ode to The Wiggles and their character Henry the Octopus is just my idea of fun.
$950
SALLY SEAHORSE
Acrylic on Canvas
120 x 120 cm
Seahorses are not just tropical creatures. They can be found in colder waters like those found in New Zealand, Argentina, Eastern Canada, and the UK. The long-snouted seahorse (Hippocampus guttulatus) can be found in UK waters.
$950
MORNINGTON BEACH
Acrylic on Canvas
120 x 90 cm
Inspired by moving from Sydney to the Morning Peninsula, this painting was one of the first that I produced upon arrival to this stunning Peninsula.
SOLD
RED POOL
Acrylic on Canvas
60 x 76 cm
One of the many joys of art is its ability to challenge perceptions. Pioneered by Impressionists like Van Gough and more recently by Pop artists like Andy Warhol, it often depicts everyday things out of context or, consciously distorted. So here's one of mine; red drops into a blue pool.
SOLD
THEN, THE CHANGE ARRIVED
Acrylic on Canvas
60 x 76 cm
My father's family was burnt out during the horrific Black Friday Bushfires in Victoria in 1939. And, like most Australians, the threat of bushfires is always there. As we've seen again recently, there's rarely a summer without fires directly confronting many hundreds of Australian, destroying their homes, often their livelihoods and sometimes their lives. So, after many days of fighting the fires in blistering heat, the arrival of a cool change is often like a miracle!
SOLD
MIDNIGHT IN THE GARDEN OF GOOD AND EVIL
Acrylic on Canvas Board
16 cm Diameter
Savannah is a magical place! The quintessential southern town, the beautiful trees lined the streets and squares often featured in movies. Forrest Gump's park bench is there, as is the wonderful house made famous in the movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.
SOLD
GLIMPSE OF SIDNEY
Acrylic on Canvas Board and Cardboard
132 x 94 cm
I first saw Sidney Nolan's "Paradise Garden" at the Victorian Arts Centre in the early '70s. With 1336 individual pieces in 230 frames it's monumental. So was his work at MONA in Hobart. "Snake" sat in storage for 40 years and I was recently lucky enough to see it exhibited. Comprising 1620 pieces, it too is stunning. "Sidney Glimpses" is at best a minuscule tribute to possibly Australia's best and most prodigious artist.
SOLD
YOUNG LADY SEATED
Acrylic on Canvas
165 x 100cm
This artwork documents my diminutive American friend, Marty. Her challenge, like so many other women, is being able to project her powerful intellect and personality in this contemporary world.
SOLD
THE JOURNEY
Acrylic on Canvas
120 x 90cm
Inspired by my dear friend's 30th anniversary, I pondered the plethora of journeys we all take in our everyday lives. Whether the shorter ones are any less important?
SOLD
DOWN TO EARTH
Acrylic on Canvas
170 x 170 cm
This is another of my attempts to capture "out of world" events that depict a power most of us find difficult to imagine. And is the image microscopic or telescopic?
SOLD
THE CELL
Acrylic on Canvas
120 x 150 cm
I'm fascinated by the similarities between images seen through a microscope and those through a telescope. There's a "science fiction" feel for both which I tried to capture with this work.
SOLD
BENEATH THE VEIL
Acrylic on Canvas
120 x 90 cm
Day to day, we all live with family and friends in our own, discreet social units. Most are at least partially covered by a veil allowing only a limited view from outside. Do we ever really know what goes on beneath the veil?
SOLD
WAVE ACTION AT COOGEE
Acrylic on Canvas
150 x 120 cm
One of the favourite Sydney beaches for surfers, I've attempted to capture the magic moment just before a big Coogee wave breaks; when all the power and tension has steadily built and is set to release into the perfect surfing wave.⠀
SOLD
WALKING DOWN TO THE WILLIE WALLACE
Acrylic on Canvas
90 x 120 cm
For Birchgrove locals, the streetscape and views to the city on Cameron St. when we walk down the hill to the iconic Sir William Wallace Hotel, are very familiar. The walk back after a few drinks is just as familiar, but a good deal harder!
SOLD
FATHER AND SON AT COOGEE
Acrylic on Canvas
75 x 60 cm
A sun-filled Sydney beach, shimmering sand, crashing waves and green grass to picnic on. And all under a clear blue sky. What a perfect place to take your son for a walk.⠀

BLUE SLATS
Acrylic on Canvas
90 x 120 cm
When I was young, my parents owned a dairy farm in Victoria. As a kid, every day was an adventure and hiding in old sheds with gaps in the wooden slats provided a unique, child like view of the outside world.

A FADING CHE
Acrylic on Canvas
60 x 45 cm
Che had been my hero for many years. A recent visit to Cuba confirmed the fervour in which his memory is celebrated by the Cuban people and the key part he took in their revolution. But for me, closer study suggests a far more sinister figure, less worthy of hero status and a belated recognition by me of his complex reality.

DANNY BOY
Acrylic on Canvas
75 x 60 cm
We all know the song and a trip to Ireland confirms the words. There's a charm about the Irish that's as much about their wild, passionate reputation as it is the music of their conversation. Wild, green eyes and wind-swept red hair, Danny is as comfortable reciting poetry as he is fighting for Ireland's independence.
SOLD
TUNDRA
Acrylic on Canvas
51 x 76 cm
Wet on wet is so effective in portraying topographical features. In this work, I've used colours and textures that contribute to an impression of the cold, rugged environment typical to the arctic tundra.
SOLD
SPRING TEARS
Acrylic on Canvas
61 x 92 cm
In this work, I've tried to capture the crisp, pure colours of spring that so often inspires passionate young love. And with love comes tears.
SOLD
STRANGER THAN FICTION
Acrylic on Canvas
92 x 61 cm
Often, when paint and canvas are given a good amount of independence, the results can be stunning. To me, this work looks very much like some of the fictional creatures from other planets that scared my childhood friends and I at the pictures.
SOLD
CREST COMET
Acrylic on Canvas
100 x 100 cm
Negative space features in many of my works; mainly to accentuate and dramatize the painting's major feature. In this work it forms the blackness of outer space and, as a further contrast to the brilliant shine of the comet tail, I've left it unvarnished.
SOLD
SUMMER STORM OVER ARDLETHAN
Acrylic on Canvas
91 x 122 cm
My wife's home-town in central NSW is on the dry side of the Newell. When the tin mine closed, so did most of the town. What's left is a shadow of former glories and, when summer storms blow, there's usually more dust than rain.
SOLD
DARLO DROUGHT
Acrylic on Canvas
51 x 76 cm
Australia's a funny place, chock-full of contradictions. Whilst our outback endures a record drought, us city dwellers enjoy our morning lattes and party on after work. Imagine though, a dried up creek bed in one of Sydney's most trendy spots.
SOLD
POPPING THE CORK
Acrylic on Canvas
61 x 91 cm
Nothing quite like the pop of a champagne cork. In this case, the work itself provided most of the celebration, with the help of some well placed pouring medium, timely tilts of the canvas and a good amount of luck!
SOLD
PEACOCK DREAMS
Acrylic on Canvas
50 x 75 cm
My wife loves the rich colours and majesty of the male peacock as he "dances" to win a partner. This one's for you Maria.
SOLD
SUPERMAN SMASHED THE CONCRETE WALL
Acrylic on Canvas
50 x 75 cm
Leafing through an old Superman comic, you've got to love the traditional colours that appealed so much to the children then, and still do. To me, the supreme super-hero, Superman's power has always been a game changer in his fight for good over evil.
SOLD
SLIDING PAINT 3
Acrylic on Canvas
50 x 75 cm
Excepting commissions, I consider all my works to be experiments. Using the technique of wet on wet paint is scary and frustrating but also exciting. It's the closest you get to the autonomous painting itself, with intricate detail far too hard to paint yourself. This work uses a sliding effect to emulate the colours of army camouflage.
$450
COMET RIBBON
Acrylic on Canvas and Cardboard
160 x 130 cm
There's an eeriness about celestial bodies; particularly comets that not only move quickly, but also leave a ribbon-like tail in an otherwise black space.
SOLD
OUTSIDE THE BOX
Acrylic on Canvas board and Canvas
120 x 190 cm
This was one of my first multiple canvases where I try to challenge the dimensional conventions of traditional "picture painting". I have again tried to re-use as many cardboard boxes in the work as I can.
SOLD
SEA HAWK
Acrylic on Canvas
120 x 90 cm
Is it a bird or is it a wave, you be the judge. This is my impression of an ocean wave that could be an ocean bird.
SOLD
PAINTBALL
Acrylic on Canvas Cardboard and Polystyrene
140 x 110 cm
I've always thought that the clean, colourful "splodges" from Paintball shots are wasted. Using a combination of canvases, cardboard and blocks of polystyrene as a random junk target, I've attempted to re-create the fun, Paintball effect.
SOLD
CRESCENT MOON
Acrylic on Canvas
150 x 155 cm
Perception of depth is always a challenge using traditional "3D" canvases. So when I wanted to represent space around the moon, I chose large expanses of deep blue, supplemented with the use of multiple canvases.
$1,200
TIME LAPSE
Acrylic on Canvas and Cardboard
210 x 150 cm
It's always fascinating to see the effects of time-lapse photographs where movements are shown as continuous, "squiggly" lines. I've used recycled cardboard for this work which offers
its own textural and dimensional chaos.
SOLD
BLUE TRANSITION
Acrylic on Canvas
140 x 110 cm
The smooth transition of shades of colours is not always easy but is another tool to use in the representation of depth. I've combined this with overlapping canvases as well as fairly subtle textural ridges.
SOLD
LAVENDER BAY 1
Acrylic on Canvas
120 x 90 cm
Nestling between Milsons and McMahons Points, Lavender Bay is a magic place. Walking down a winding path through lush gardens to the ferry, you pass by Brett Whitely’s house. Inspirational!
SOLD
GREEK EYES
Acrylic on Canvas
120 x 120 cm
Coincidences often occur when I paint. I had no idea that "eyes" have an iconic place in Greek history and culture. So this commission work for my greco-phile friend Christina, means a good deal more than just decor for her new cosmetic surgery in Victoria Road, Rozelle.
SOLD
QUEEN DOES WEMBLEY 1
Acrylic on Canvas
60 x 90 cm
Great music really makes painting enjoyable. And with a nice wine, it’s even more fun. So, with the wine flowing and Freddy busting it out at the famous Wembley concert in 1986, these two paintings are what I hope are at least partially adequate responses.
